Josh Rock reached the round of 16 of the recent European Tour in Sindelfingen at the weekend as the Northern Irishman searches for some consistency. He did reach the semi-finals in Rotterdam last week with a comfortable 6-2 defeat of Stephen Bunting before a dramatic 6-5 loss to eventual nightly winner Jonny Clayton.

Michael van Gerwen began his calendar year very well and he has been steadier and more impressive than last year, with a quarter-final appearance in Sindelfingen. However, he was hammered by Clayton last week to leave his spot in the top four of the Premier League still under serious doubt.

Van Gerwen is still performing at a decent level, albeit with the ferocity and consistency of his past self, and remains the slight favourite against Rock, perhaps beginning to use the next few weeks as experience, rather than being extra competitive.
