Iva Jovic continued her progress in New York with a straight sets win over Francesca Jones. Jovic won 69% of points on her first and second serves, while she saved four of the six break points that she faced. Jovic also created 14 break point opportunities herself, converting four, and can now look forward to a third-round match against Alexandra Eala

The Filipino comfortably got past Oleksandra Oliynykova in round two. Oliynykova had won their previous meeting in Strasbourg earlier in the year, but Eala exacted revenge with a 6-1 6-4 victory. She won 75% of her first serve points, while converting five of seven break point opportunities. The 17th seed began her US Open campaign by comfortably defeating American qualifier Mary Stoiana.

Jovic leads the head-to-head 2-0 and both victories have come this season. She beat Eala 6-4 6-2 at Roland Garros, before producing an even more emphatic 6-2 6-2 victory at Queen’s Club three weeks later. However, this is their first meeting on a hard court, and Eala has been the more convincing player over the past month, having won her first tour-level title at the Washington Open.
