THE LOWDOWN

MALLORCA

Mexican coach Javier Aguirre remains in charge of Real Mallorca, despite a fairly underwhelming La Liga campaign. However, the Balearic Islanders have been much-improved in the last month and a half or so as they attempt to move towards the middle-of-the-table being, as is the case with an Aguirre side, extremely difficult to beat or play against.

Their strong form continued in midweek as they pulled off a surprise 3-2 defeat of La Liga leaders Girona in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey, despite being down to ten men for over 20 minutes of that game. That victory does mean Mallorca have now suffered just one loss in their last 12 matches across all competitions.

REAL BETIS

Real Betis, under the management of former Manchester City and Real Madrid boss Manuel Pellegrini, are a limited squad with restricted financial resources that are beginning to fade down into the middle-of-the-table. The Andalusians continued their poor form with a 4-2 defeat at home to Barcelona, last week.

That loss at the Benito Villamarin means that Betis have managed just 11 matches across all competitions with those victories coming against third-tier Villanovense in the second round of the Copa del Rey and against a Granada side that appear destined for relegation by just a goal to nil at home a couple of weeks ago.

THE TEAM NEWS

MALLORCA

Real Mallorca have had several injury concerns throughout the campaign but Vedat Muriqi has now returned and only full-back Pablo Maffeo remains unavailable.

PREDICTED XI (5-4-1): Rajkovic; Sanchez, Valjent, Raillo, Nastasic, Lato; Darder, Morlanes, Costa, Rodriguez; Larin

UNAVAILABLE: Maffeo (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

REAL BETIS

The likes of Chadi Riad, Youssouf Sabaly and Abde Ez remain away at the Africa Cup of Nations, whilst Ayoze Perez and Juan Miranda are among those sidelined by injury.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Silva; Bellerin, Pezzella, Sokratis, Abner; Cardoso, Roca; Luiz Henrique, Isco, Diao; Willian Jose

UNAVAILABLE: Riad (International duty), Sabaly (International duty), Abde Ez (International duty), Ruibal (Injured), Perez (Injured), Miranda (Injured), Rodriguez (Injured), Bravo (Injured), Bartra (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Carvalho (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Since the November international break, Mallorca have stumbled upon an effective formula as they try and establish themselves back in mid-table. In those 12 games, they have managed six victories with five draws and their only defeat coming by a goal to nil at the Bernabeu against Real Madrid. They now face a Real Betis side that have actually been relatively reliant on their home form under Manuel Pellegrini so a double chance bet in favour of Mallorca would appear a decent chance for this one.

TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – REAL MALLORCA TO WIN OR DRAW
