Santa Clara come into this on the back of a 1-0 defeat away to newly-promoted Rio Ave in their most recent outing, at the weekend. They have managed just one win in their opening eight matches as they sit in the relegation playoff place ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures. They now face a Sporting CP side that, under the management of Ruben Amorim, have pulled off some impressive performances this season but were hammered 4-1 by Marseille in midweek to continue an inconsistent start. They have won three of their last four Primeira Liga matches, though, and should make it four wins in five.
