It has been a really poor start to the campaign for Venezia following their promotion last season but they did end their losing streak at the weekend as they now prepare to welcome high-flying Udinese to Venice.

VENEZIA PREVIEW: LEARNING TO SWIM

Under the management of Paolo Vanoli, Venezia gained promotion back to the top-flight last season but then lost their manager, a disciple of Antonio Conte, to Torino with their replacement being former Roma and Frosinone boss Eusebio Di Francesco. It has been a very difficult start to the season.

The Venetians have managed just one win in their opening nine matches of the 2024/25 campaign as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting rock-bottom. They did manage to earn a 2-2 draw against Monza at the weekend but they did lead twice in that match and Monza were down to ten men for around ten minutes of that match.

UDINESE PREVIEW: FLOURISHING IN FRIULI

Over the summer, Udinese’s owners, the Pozzo family, have turned their attention back to Udinese after the Friulians narrowly escaped relegation on the final day of last season and they have moved their focus away from Watford. The Friulians have started the campaign very well since the appointment of former Legia Warsaw boss Kosta Runjaic.

The visitors come into this one on the back of two victories in their last three matches as they sit below Fiorentina, in fourth, as well as Atalanta and Lazio just on goal difference. They come into this one on the back of a comfortable 2-0 defeat of ten man Cagliari with goals from Lorenzo Lucca and Keinan Davis.

VENEZIA TEAM NEWS: NO FRESH ISSUES

As Venezia and Di Francesco search for some sort of consistency and formula at both ends of the pitch, they are blessed with no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues.

The visitors are likely to remain without Iceland international Bjarkar Bjarkason and they may want to make changes anyway due to their general poor form.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Stankovic; Idzes, Svoboda, Haps; Zampano, Duncan, Andersen, Ellertsson; Oristanio, Busio; Pohjanpalo

UNAVAILABLE:

QUESTIONABLE: Bjarkason (Injured)

UDINESE TEAM NEWS: STILL NO ALEXIS

One of the key signs that Udinese had their owners back on their side was the re-signing of Alexis Sanchez but the Chilean attacker has been out throughout this season and still is.

They have got some key players back for this week’s match in Venice but they remain without Arthur Atta and former Olympique de Marseille forward Florian Thauvin.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Okoye; Kabasele, Bijol, Toure; Ehizibue, Lovric, Karlstrom, Payero, Kamara; Davis, Lucca

UNAVAILABLE: Atta (Injured), Thauvin (Injured), Sanchez (Injured)

VENEZIA VS UDINESE PREDICTION

Eusebio Di Francesco’s style of football is very attacking but that can often, and quite fairly, lead to allegations of being naïve which did see his Frosinone side relegated from Serie A last season. Udinese have been entertaining to watch since the appointment of Runjaic and are expected to be a good watch for the neutral throughout this campaign. They are favourites for this one, too, despite being away from home.
