THE LOWDOWN

FREIBURG

Whilst Freiburg have recently struggled to pick up victories in the Bundesliga, they are unbeaten across their last two games in all competitions. An excellent 2-3 win away at Greek giants Olympiakos in the Europa League was backed up by a credible 0-0 draw on the road against Eintracht Frankfurt, a good way to bounce back following consecutive Bundesliga defeats.

They’ll be very happy to return home this Sunday, having not played on their own ground since September 16th when they were beaten 2-4 by Borussia Dortmund. Their only other home fixture this season saw them score at the death to defeat Werder Bremen by a goal to nil.

AUGSBURG

Augsburg gave themselves some rest-bite from the perils of being in and around the bottom three at least temporarily, after they picked up a first Bundesliga win of the season last time out. They fell behind against strugglers Mainz early on, but rallied later in the first half, coming back to lead through a Ermedin Demirovic double.

Demirovic will no doubt be expected to play an important role again for Augsburg here as they look to pick up their first positive result away from home following comprehensive losses against formidable title-chasing sides such as Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig.

THE TEAM NEWS

FREIBURG

Midfield enforcer Nicolas Hofler is serving a suspension and as such won’t be available for Freiburg. Daniel-Kofi Kyereh and Christian Gunter remain out, as does Benjamin Uphoff. Manuel Gulde has been suffering from illness across the week and is doubtful.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-3): Atubolu; Ginter, Lienhart, Sildillia; Sallai, Keitel, Eggestein, Kubler; Doan, Holer, Grifo

UNAVAILABLE: Hofler (Suspended), Kyereh (Injured), Gunter (Injured), Uphoff (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Gulde (Illness)

AUGSBURG

Augsburg could well end up matching their opponents’ formation, although they’ll have to do without Arne Engels, who is suspended. Raphael Framberger and Japhet Tanganga are both missing through knee issues, whilst Masaya Okugawa may also end up not being able to feature.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-3): Dahmen; Pfeiffer, Gouweleeuw, Uduokhai; Mbabu, Rexhbecaj, Dorsch, Iago; Vargas, Tietz, Demirovic

UNAVAILABLE: Engels (Suspended), Framberger (Injured), Oxford (Illness), Tanganga (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Okugawa (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Freiburg are likely to see this as a great opportunity to get back to winning ways with home advantage and a full week of rest following a challenging recent schedule. Augsburg are yet to pick up a single point on the road and should spend most of this contest on the back foot. The quality within the Freiburg team is expected to shine through in the end, so back them to pick up a much-needed three points.

TIP: FREIBURG TO WIN
