THE LOWDOWN

SHEFFIELD UTD

In Spain, Almeria are waiting for their relegation to be mathematically confirmed, whilst in Italy, Salernitana are simply waiting for their own fate to be complete. Sheffield United also fall into that category in the Premier League, too, as they begin the weekend’s round of fixtures sitting ten points adrift of safety.

The home team come into this one on the back of a half-decent showing and performance at Anfield on Thursday evening. The Blades got back level against league leaders Liverpool and it was 1-1 with less than 15 minutes to go before conceding twice. They have managed just three victories in their 30 games this season.

CHELSEA

Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea come into this one on the back of a remarkable encounter with Manchester United in midweek. The Blues took a 2-0 lead at Stamford Bridge before falling behind mid-way through the second-half. However, beyond the 99th minute, Cole Palmer completed a hat-trick to give Chelsea a dramatic and much-needed victory.

They have been entertaining to watch throughout this season with their 29 matches so far this season consisting of 103 goals. Their last six matches across all competitions have had a combined total of 31 goals with both teams scoring at least two goals, quite remarkably, in each of those matches.

THE TEAM NEWS

Chris Wilder has said that he is hopeful former Coventry midfielder Gustavo Hamer will be available for this weekend after picking up a knock on Thursday night against Liverpool.

The Blades are also set to be able to welcome striker Cameron Archer back into the squad after a recent calf injury. They remain without long-term injury absentees such as John Egan and Chris Basham.

CHELSEA

Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that Ben Chilwell’s fitness would be assessed ahead of facing Sheffield United after recently suffering from an illness as well as a knee injury.

The Blues are also without several other first-teamers as the likes of Romeo Lavia, Reece James, Wesley Fofana and Christopher Nkunku still unavailable for this weekend.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Petrovic; Gusto, Disasi, Badiashile, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernandez; Madueke, Palmer, Mudryk; Jackson

UNAVAILABLE: Fofana (Injured), Colwill (Injured), James (Injured), Ugochukwu (Injured), Lavia (Injured), Nkunku (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Sanchez (Injured), Chilwell (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Sheffield United begin the weekend sitting rock-bottom in the Premier League table with three victories and they are just waiting to be relegated but their performances have arguably been improved of late and showing a bit more fight. They face a Chelsea side that have been almost comically entertaining to watch throughout this campaign. They are firm favourites to make it much-needed back-to-back victories.

TIP: CHELSEA TO WIN
