THE LOWDOWN

MAN UTD

Manchester United have really underwhelmed throughout this campaign. The former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag is coming under serious pressure as they have consistently underperformed. The fact they remain in the top six in the Premier League table and have an FA Cup semi-final to look forward to is just quite astonishing based on how poorly they have played.

Last weekend, they conceded a 98th minute equalising goal to Brentford and a point at the Gtech Community Stadium really flattered the Red Devils. Then, in midweek, Chelsea defeated United by four goals to three with two goals beyond the 99th minute for the Blues to end what was a ridiculously topsy turvy encounter at Stamford Bridge.

LIVERPOOL

Jurgen Klopp will be departing Liverpool at the end of the season and he is looking to finish with a flourish by winning a second Premier League title. The Reds begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting at the top-of-the-table but they could be third by the time they next play with both Arsenal and Manchester City playing on Saturday.

They come into this one on the back of surviving a scare by overcoming bottom-of-the-table and Championship-bound Sheffield United in their most recent outing in midweek, eventually winning by three goals to one. They have been relatively unconvincing at times but have become something of a winning machine.

THE TEAM NEWS

MAN UTD

Erik ten Hag has been dealt several other injury issues for this weekend’s clash as Raphael Varane, Jonny Evans and Casemiro all hobbling out of their game with Chelsea.

The home team remain without the likes of Lisandro Martinez as well as left-back duo Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, whilst Anthony Martial also remains unavailable.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Onana; Dalot, Maguire, Kambwala, Wan-Bissaka; Mainoo, McTominay; Antony, Fernandes, Garnacho; Hojlund

UNAVAILABLE: Martinez (Injured), Lindelof (Injured), Shaw (Injured), Malacia (Injured), Martial (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Bayindir (Injured), Evans (Injured), Varane (Injured), Caemiro (Injured)

LIVERPOOL

Jurgen Klopp has been dealing with several injury concerns throughout the campaign but team news has been pretty thin ahead of this one with no pre-match press conference ahead of this one.

The likes of Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota remain unavailable for this weekend with Wataru Endo expected to recover in time for the trip to Old Trafford.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Kelleher; Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Endo, Szoboszlai; Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz

UNAVAILABLE: Alisson (Injured), Matip (Injured), Alexander-Arnold (Injured), Bajcetic (Injured), Thiago (Injured), Diogo Jota (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Endo (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Last month, despite being such an average team, Manchester United somehow managed to pull off a 4-3 defeat of Liverpool after extra-time in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. This time around, though, with the title race into play, Liverpool will surely seek to be a lot more ruthless and efficient than they were in the second-half in that match. Liverpool are better than a poor United team and in Klopp’s final game against the old rivals, a Liverpool victory is to be expected.

TIP: LIVERPOOL TO WIN
