THE LOWDOWN

LIVERPOOL

Jurgen Klopp is looking to leave Liverpool after winning a historical four trophies in their season. The Reds come into this one on the back of a thrilling hammering of Sparta Prague in the first-leg of their UEFA Europa League Round of 16 tie, hammering the Czech Republic club by five goals to one on Thursday evening.

They stayed top-of-the-table in the Premier League a week ago with Darwin Nunez scoring a controversial 99th minute winning goal against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. Prior to that, they comfortably hammered Southampton by three goals to nil in the fifth round of the FA Cup after an extra-time victory over Chelsea in the final of the EFL Cup at the weekend.

MAN CITY

Pep Guardiola, like Klopp, is also pushing to create some history this season as Manchester City target a ‘double treble’. They moved into the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League in midweek, defeating Danish champions Copenhagen in the Round of 16 in midweek, completing a 6-2 aggregate victory.

Last weekend, City came from behind to comfortably defeat Manchester United by three goals to one in the Manchester derby. Those victories means that Manchester City are now unbeaten in their last 20 matches across all competitions as they begin the weekend sitting a point behind Liverpool at the top-of-the-table.

THE TEAM NEWS

LIVERPOOL

Mohamed Salah came off the bench on Thursday as he returned to the squad following his injury. Darwin Nunez and Dominik Szoboszlai were also involved after returning to the team last weekend against Nottingham Forest.

Klopp has said that defender Joe Gomez is 'fine' after being subbed off against Sparta Prague but there are doubts over Ibrahima Konate with the Frenchman awaiting results of a scan. Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota remain sidelined through injury.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Kelleher; Bradley, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Endo, Szoboszlai; Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz

UNAVAILABLE: Alisson (Injured), Matip (Injured), Alexander-Arnold (Injured), Jones (Injured), Bajcetic (Injured), Thiago (Injured), Gravenberch (Injured), Jota (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Konate (Injured)

MAN CITY

Pep Guardiola has a few injury concerns but only one definite absentee for this weekend's short trip west to Merseyside as England international attacking midfielder Jack Grealish remains injured with no time scale on his return.

Matheus Nunes dislocated a finger against Copenhagen in midweek and he is a doubt for this weekend, as well as Jeremy Doku who missed that game with a 'minor' issue. Phil Foden is expected to be available after suffering a dead leg against Manchester United.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Ederson; Walker, Stones, Dias, Ake; Rodri, Silva; Foden, De Bruyne, Alvarez; Haaland

UNAVAILABLE: Grealish (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Nunes (Injured), Doku (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

This is the final time that Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp will face each other in the Premier League. Klopp is one of few managers to have a better record than Guardiola in head-to-head meetings with the Liverpool boss winning 11 to Guardiola’s ten as we head into their 30th meeting as coaches. The two sides have put on some great shows down the years and the stage is set at Anfield for another one on Sunday afternoon. Both teams have scored in 15 of the 21 matches between the pair under Klopp and Guardiola and another BTTS bet would seem good value.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
