THE LOWDOWN

EVERTON

Former Burnley boss Sean Dyche leads his Everton side into a game whereby he is under seriously major pressure with the Toffees beginning this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting just four points above the bottom three and the relegation places with the possibility of another points deduction potentially seeing them slip down the table.

They come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw with Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Wednesday evening with a late equaliser via Dominic Calvert-Lewin from the penalty spot. They haven’t won a game since mid-December and have managed just one win in their last 17 matches across all competitions.

BURNLEY

In contrast to the collapse of Everton, Burnley have actually begun to show some signs of life in the last month or so as they try and close the gap on the teams outside of the relegation zone. The Clarets have enjoyed a four-match unbeaten run of form of late either side of the March international break.

The Lancastrians shared a 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Turf Moor during the week with Rayan Ait-Nouri cancelling out Jacob Bruun Larsen’s opening goal. That followed two 2-2 draws in the capital city against West Ham United and Chelsea, sandwiching a 2-1 defeat of Brentford before the aforementioned break.

THE TEAM NEWS

EVERTON

Sean Dyche has confirmed that midfielder Amadou Onana is facing a late fitness test as he races to get back into the Toffees’ first-team squad to face Burnley this weekend.

The hosts have welcomed Arnaut Danjuma back into training but the Netherlands international remains unavailable, as does forward Lewis Dobbin.

PREDICTED XI (4-5-1): Pickford; Coleman, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Harrison, Young, Garner, Doucoure, McNeil; Calvert-Lewin

UNAVAILABLE: Alli (Injured), Danjuma (Injured), Dobbin (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Onana (Injured)

BURNLEY

Vincent Kompany gave little away in his post-match interview after Burnley’s game against Wolves the other night but did say that ‘everyone’ came through ‘ok’.

The Clarets remain without defensive duo Jordan Beyer and Ameen Al Dakhil, too, due to injuries but they are both making progress and could return this season.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Muric; Assignon, O’Shea, Esteve, Vitinho; Foster, Cullen, Berge, Larsen; Odobert, Fofana

UNAVAILABLE: Beyer (Injured), Al Dakhil (Injured), Ramsey (Injured), Redmond (Injured), Koleosho (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Pressure is beginning to grow on Dyche with the former Watford boss, who is now facing his former club, perhaps saved by the fact that off-field issues have dominated the attention at Goodison Park in the last few months but no victory since before Christmas in the league is extremely underwhelming. Burnley, given their form and desperation, will be confident of at least scoring on Merseyside this weekend and both teams scoring would seem a good bet for what is a crucial six-pointer on Saturday afternoon.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
