THE LOWDOWN

CHELSEA

  • Chelsea were well below-par in their 3-0 defeat to Leeds last time out, which came as something of a surprise given how well they performed in the draw with Spurs the previous week, and Thomas Tuchel will be demanding a response here.
  • Kalidou Koulibaly’s suspension means that Tuchel will need to plug a hole in defence – with Marc Cucurella a candidate to drop into the back three – while further changes could be on the cards given the abject display last week.

LEICESTER

  • It is worrying times for Leicester at the moment, who sit on just one point after three games played, and it is at the back where most of the problems lie as the loss of Kasper Schmeichel has clearly impacted their defensive solidity, while Wesley Fofana will once again be omitted from the matchday squad in light of the transfer speculation surrounding his potential move to opponents Chelsea.
  • The Foxes also toiled to a penalty shootout win over Stockport County in the League Cup on Tuesday and news of an injury to James Maddison – who is touch and go for the weekend – will certainly not help Brendan Rodgers’ mood right now.

THE TEAM NEWS

CHELSEA

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Mendy; Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva, Cucurella; James, Loftus-Cheek, Jorginho, Chilwell; Ziyech, Pulisic; Sterling

QUESTIONABLE: Kovacic (Fitness)

LEICESTER

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Ward; Castagne, Amartey; Evans, Justin; Ndidi, Dewsbury-Hall; Perez, Tielemans, Barnes; Vardy

UNAVAILABLE: Fofana (Personal reasons), Bertrand (Injured), Pereira (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Maddison (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Chelsea’s defeat to Leeds last weekend will have been a shock to the system and Thomas Tuchel will not shy away from making changes to his team here. Fortunately for the hosts, they now face a ragged Leicester side so this could be the perfect fixture for the Blues to bounce back in. All is not well in the Foxes camp, with key players linked with other clubs making for an unwelcome distraction, and it very much feels like a transitional period for the club. A response from Chelsea is anticipated, and should that be the case, Leicester will struggle to live with them.

TIP: CHELSEA TO WIN
