England vs South Africa prediction
This contest will determine who joins Australia as the two semi-finalists from Group A. Both England and South Africa have defeated the low-hanging fruit in the group such as Malawi, Tonga and Northern Ireland. Now they turn their attentions to each other with the winner moving on to the last four. History certain favours England though, with the Vitality Roses having never failed to make it past this stage of the tournament since Netball at the Commonwealth Games adopted this format back in 1998.
On the contrary, it’s been largely heartbreak for South Africa. The Proteas have fallen short in each of their last five group stage campaigns and also suffered the heartbreak of four consecutive third-place finishes in their respective group since 2010. Losing here would make it five Commonwealth Games in a row and whilst they have never looked better as a team, England always seem to find a way to make it through.
You can’t help but wonder if nerves will creep in to South Africa’s game with the weight of history on their shoulders and England’s depth is strong. Expect a tight encounter, but back England to edge out the Proteas.
