For Australia to be in this position was nigh-on unthinkable heading into the tournament. But the reigning Commonwealth and Netball World Cup champions were stunned in one of the most remarkable victories in the history of the sport on Saturday. Before this year, the Diamonds had reached the gold medal match in every previous Commonwealth Games. But Jamaica pulled off an upset for the ages in their semi-final encounter, beating the previously flawless Australians 46-45.
As for England, they were taken down by New Zealand despite a late rally as they never recovered from falling behind in the first quarter. Now they have to face a wounded Australia, who already beat them in the group stage. Whilst motivation will be low for the perennial gold medalists, expect Australia to at least get on the podium with a second win over the Vitality Roses.
