Liam McCracken: The talented Englishman looking to complete a fairytale MMA arc
A win for Liam McCracken (8-1) on Tuesday night would cap one of the sport’s most impressive comeback stories. Turning pro after a superb amateur career, the Scouse prospect would spend three years on the sidelines after being hit by a bus, breaking his neck, leg, ribs, and pelvis in the process. That would have been the end for most fighters, but McCracken has been on a tear since returning, reeling off three successive stoppages and winning the FCC lightweight strap. A BJJ black belt and well-rounded finisher, the 25 year old Englishman has a 100% stoppage rate.

Credited with finishes in all but one of his nine professional wins to date, Silvestre Sanchez (9-1) rides a five fight win streak into the biggest fight of his young career. A powerful striker with an opportunistic submission game, “Gorilla” began his martial arts journey by training in Muay Thai and has carried his heavy hands into his MMA career. The 24 year old Mexican prospect has devastating KO power in his fists and has scored a number of absolutely brutal finishes on the regional circuit.

While he’s a moderate favorite, this is a dangerous fight for McCracken. Underdogs have been coming up large on the Contender Series in shocking fashion this year.
I think that if the Scouser can get this one to the ground, I like his chances to find a finish. McCracken has brutal GNP, excellent submissions, and is going to be the best grappler that Sanchez has faced by a considerable stretch.
However, “Gorilla" hits like a mack truck and it’s not out of the realms of possibility that he nukes the Scouser with a brutal overhand in the early goings. While he’s a decent striker in his own right, McCracken is extremely aggressive as he comes forward and leaves openings for an educated counter striker to take advantage of.
I’m a huge fan of McCracken; he always comes to fight in entertaining fashion, never stops hunting the finish, and his story is nothing short of inspirational. Unfortunately, I just can’t shake the feeling that this could be the fight where the power coming back in his direction could prove to be too much to handle.
I hope that I’m wrong, but the reluctant pick is Silvestre by KO.
