Reigning champions Trent Rockets are firmly the team to beat in this year’s Men’s Hundred with an envious bowling attack, matched with significant power in the top order batting. Dawid Malan and Alex Hales should get them off to a good start, whilst Lewis Gregory provides batting depth in the middle order, a golden arm with the ball and brilliant leadership having recently captained Somerset to a first T20 Blast victory since 2005. Sam Cook, star performer in last year’s final and Australian Daniel Sams both starred in Essex Eagles’ run to the T20 Blast final and are likely to prove a potential partnership for the Rockets with the ball, not to mention Hampshire’s John Turner, who has arguably been the bowling find of the county season. Turner was picked up by Trent Rockets as first pick in the wildcard draft.
SOUTHERN BRAVE
Inaugural Men’s Hundred winners Southern Brave have a disappointing 2022 and will be looking to rediscover the winning formula that deserted them last year. James Vince’s side boast a strong looking top order, with Vince himself the highest scoring batter in this season’s T20 Blast, but the depth within their batting order is slightly questionable. When it comes to the bowling, left-arm pacer Tymal Mills will need to stay fit and show his best form, whilst Rehan Ahmed’s leg-spin could also be crucial. Chris Jordan though, is one of the most reliable death bowlers in the world and is key to any of the Brave’s success.
THE PREDICTION
The worry here for Southern Brave is that their bowling attack could be dealt some treatment on an excellent batting pitch at Trent Bridge with will provide a huge test for Jordan and co. Especially when considering how dangerous Trent Rockets’ batting line-up looks up front in terms of natural power. The hosts also contain a bowling line-up capable of taking early wickets and restricting the progress of their opponents. Expect the Rockets to lay down a marker with two points here.
