THE TEAM NEWS
TEAM ABU DHABI
- Team Abu Dhabi were the final team formed to participate in this edition of the T10 League and they have made a big splash by recruiting former England head coach Trevor Bayliss, who is bringing several English stars with him for this tournament.
- Moeen Ali will take a break from Mzansi Super League duties to join up with the team and captain them, while he will be joined by the likes of Lewis Gregory, Luke Wright, Harry Gurney, Alex Davies and Richard Gleeson who have all enjoyed excellent T20 Blast campaigns in 2019.
- They will be joined by big-hitting Kiwi all-rounder Corey Anderson, Sri Lankan star Niroshan Dickwella and Aussie T20 specialist bowler Ben Laughlin, as Bayliss has formed a talented team on paper.
QALANDARS
- The Qalandars come into this year’s T10 League with their plans having been somewhat disrupted after the Pakistani Cricket Board revoked their permission for various Pakistan international players to participate, so that will see them without the likes of Mohammad Hafeez, Imad Wasim and Faheem Ashraf.
- They will still have a heavy Pakistani influence however as they are coached by Aqib Javed and can boast legendary veteran Shahid Afridi as their icon player, while the squad is largely split between Pakistani and English players as Chris Jordan and Tom Banton have travelled from New Zealand after national duty to play.
- They have a handful of English players that will be looking to make a mark at the tournament in Phil Salt, Laurie Evans, Samit Patel and Jordan Clark, while Luke Ronchi is also on what is looking like an incredibly strong Qalandars roster.
THE PREDICTION
Team Abu Dhabi have a relatively small squad having been set up at such a late point prior to the start of the tournament and while they have some talented player on their books, and none more destructive than Moeen Ali, they look a little light overall when compared with the Qalandars. The Qalandars are split approximately 50/50 between Pakistani and English players, and while they have lost some current international players due to the controversy with the PCB, they still have plenty of quality in their ranks to win this opener.
