THE TEAM NEWS
NORTHERN BRAVE
- Northern Brave get their Super Smash campaign here against Otago Volts and after just missing out on top three place last time out, they will be hoping to go one step better this time round.
- The Brave are hugely boosted by the availability of big-hitting all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme following international duty, however both fast bowler Trent Boult and spin-bowler Ish Sodhi may not be ready to return to action after a long T20 World Cup following by a tour of India.
OTAGO VOLTS
- Otago Volts got off to a losing start in the Super Smash after their 184/4 accrued against Central Districts was chased down with an over to spare.
- The experienced Hamish Rutherford shone with the bat, scoring 82 from just 47 balls, however apart from Matthew Bacon, Otago’s bowling attack were unable to stem the runs in reply and will need to tighten up here.
THE PREDICTION
The poor forecast could lead to a frustrating evening in Hamilton with both desperate to get a game in and record what would be a first win the competition. From a batting perspective, much will likely depend on Rutherford once again for Otago Volts, whilst Northern Brave having De Grandhomme balances their side out nicely and they look set for a good Super Smash campaign. Whilst no moves should be made until just before the start of play when we get a clearer idea on whether rain is going to disrupt play, the Northern Brave are to be narrowly favoured in this one.
