THE TEAM NEWS

AUCKLAND ACES

  • Auckland Aces are starting to build some serious momentum having won each of their last three Super Smash matches, the most recent of those coming over a week ago against lowly Otago Volts.
  • That victory saw another New Zealand international return to the Aces line-up in Glenn Phillips, who only serves to make them an even more dangerous unit going forward with his dynamic fielding and power hitting a huge asset.

CANTERBURY KINGS

  • Since Canterbury Kings fell to that heart-breaking one-wicket loss at the hands of Northern Brave, they have shown incredible mental fortitude to bounce back, winning their following two matches against Otago Volts and Central Stags respectively.
  • The batting of the Kings has proven a serious strong suit and this was shown against the Stags as they successfully chased down a mammoth target of 218 with 2.4 overs to spare, a serious statement to the rest of the competition.

THE PREDICTION

A high scoring encounter may well be in prospect against two excellent T20 batting units. This makes the bowling on both sides crucial in terms of the overall outcome of this match. Auckland Aces are coming off the back of restricting an admittedly weak Otago to 129/9, whilst Canterbury Kings conceded over 217 runs to Central Stags bowling first. Fast bowler Lockie Ferguson is likely to play a huge role for the Aces as the stand out world class short form bowler in action and this tips the scales ever so slightly in Auckland’s favour. Whilst this contest could go either way, the momentum of Auckland Aces and the presence of international players such as Martin Guptill, Phillips and Ferguson makes backing them worth considering.
