THE LOWDOWN

QUETTA GLADIATORS

  • Whilst Quetta Gladiators have shown plenty of promise in this season’s PSL, the table does not lie and their record of three losses and one win across their four matches played so far needs to improve and quickly.
  • The Gladiators are expected to have both Jason Roy and James Vince available, the latter having most recently featured against Islamabad United and the two England batters will hugely strengthen Quetta’s top order ahead of this match.

LAHORE QALANDARS

  • Lahore Qalandars’ bowling attack successfully got the better of Islamabad United’s imposing batting line-up this past Saturday, helping them record an eight-run victory that puts them in a strong position after four games played.
  • The Qalandars remain overly reliant on Fakhar Zaman to gain the bulk of their runs, however, when taking into account of the class of players such as Mohammad Hafeez and Phil Salt, the expectation is that this won’t be the case for much longer as those two in particular begin to find some form.

THE PREDICTION

It must be so frustrating to be a Quetta Gladiators fan at times. Just when you think they are set to turn a corner, the team takes two steps back, as they did in their last game, conceding 229 runs bowling first to Islamabad United. No doubt the Qalandars have the batters to take advantage of a bowling attack likely low on confident following the treatment handed out to them by the Islamabad batters. The trio of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Rashid Khan and Haris Rauf is the envy of every side in the tournament and they should prove far too strong for the Quetta batters here, ultimately breaking the back of the Gladiators top order whether they bat first or second, eventually steering Lahore Qalandars to a fourth win of the tournament.
