THE LOWDOWN

KARACHI KINGS

  • Karachi Kings continue to struggle in the opening days of the Pakistan Super League, having fallen to a second straight defeat, this time at the hands of Quetta Gladiators by eight wickets.
  • For the second match running it was the Kings’ batting which let them down, having been dismissed for just 113 in 17.3 runs and it would be no surprise if changes were made in order to freshen up a clearly underperforming batting unit.

LAHORE QALANDARS

  • Lahore Qalandars failed to defend an impressive first innings score of 206/5 in their opening PSL match of the season, losing to reigning champions Multan Sultans with two balls to spare despite the efforts of Shaheen Shah Afridi, who took three wickets with the ball
  • The Qalandars aren’t expected to panic, having already been at a disadvantage by losing the toss in a day/night fixture where the dew came slightly into effect and benefitted the chasing Sultans, however Samit Patel being hit for 19 runs off his only over the contest could see him replaced in the starting line-up.

THE PREDICTION

With one match having already taken place on the same pitch earlier in the day, the expectation is that it may prove slightly trickier for batting, which could mitigate the dew factor with the chasing side having to bat on a surface likely to be significantly worn-out following three batting innings. Ultimately the Karachi Kings’ batting has not been up to a good enough standard so far and may well struggle again here against a Qalandars bowling attack that includes the likes of Shaheen and Rashid Khan. Provided that Lahore can replicate their batting performance shown against Multan Sultans, then they should emerge triumphant here, securing their first win of this year’s PSL.
