THE LOWDOWN

ISLAMABAD UNITED

  • Islamabad United’s inconsistency continues to stunt their progress as they head into this match with a 3-3 record after six games, most recently losing by five wickets to Quetta Gladiators after their total of 199/8 was chased down in 19.4 overs.
  • Shadab Khan continues to lead his team admirably and couldn’t have done anymore himself with the ball against Quetta, taking three wickets at 6.25 runs per over, however Hasan Ali struggled with no wickets and an economy rate of over 13 runs an over.

KARACHI KINGS

  • A nightmare season for Karachi Kings continued over the weekend as they were beaten by Peshawar Zalmi to make it six defeats in six for Babar Azam’s side in PSL 7, this latest loss coming by 55 runs.
  • Since joining the Kings, Chris Jordan has been a standout performer having taken five wickets across his two matches played so far and the England T20i bowler will need to be at his best to give his side

THE PREDICTION

This is a crucial match for Islamabad United with all the teams around them having played a game more and they cannot afford to slip up against the bottom-placed side without a single victory across the competition so far. The batting of Karachi Kings has faltered all tournament long with Babar Azam often a lone wolf at the top of the order, making scores whilst his partners fall around him. From a bowling perspective, Chris Jordan has brought an injection of quality, but the left-arm pace of Mohammad Amir remains a huge miss and the strong top order of Islamabad United are expected to cash in against a bowling attack that doesn’t provide a huge amount of fear. The last time these two teams clashed, Islamabad United won by 42 runs and another victory for Shadab Khan’s men looks very much on the cards in this one.
