THE TEAM NEWS

PAKISTAN

  • Pakistan’s five wicket victory over New Zealand in Sharjah this past Tuesday sees them top the Group 2 table in the Super 12s with wins in both their two matches played so far.
  • Captain Mohammad Rizwan and the Pakistan coaching staff will have no reason to want to change anything so far and unless any unknown injuries have cropped up, then expected an unchanged Pakistan side for a third straight Super 12s fixture.

AFGHANISTAN

  • Afghanistan got their Super 12s campaign off to a winning start in some style, after they thrashed Scotland by 130 runs, accruing a score of 190/4 batting first, before bowling the Scots out for just 60.
  • Of the ten wickets taken by Afghanistan against Scotland, nine of them came via the spin-bowling duo of Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan and the two form the spine of what should be an unchanged bowling attack here.

THE PREDICTION

The key to victory here will be which side plays the opposition bowlers better from a batting point of view. Pakistan are going to have to be very careful when attacking the spin of both Rashid and Mujeeb and their experienced top order is likely prove very important here, as they are expected to show that they are smart enough to know when to pick their shots and when to play sensibly against this Afghanistan line-up. On the flip side, Pakistan’s pace bowling in particular has been devastatingly effective across the T20 World Cup so far and the Afghanistan batters will not have faced anything like what they will here. The expectation therefore, is that the Pakistan batters will cope better against the Afghanistan bowling unit than the Afghanistan batters will against Pakistan’s bowling attack. As a result, this should lead to a third straight victory for Pakistan in this T20 World Cup.
