THE TEAM NEWS

AFGHANISTAN

  • Afghanistan sealed the series in comprehensive fashion at the weekend, beating Netherlands by 48 runs after another excellent bowling performance and will be looking to complete a 3-0 sweep here in Doha.
  • Whilst the temptation may be for Afghanistan to rest a couple of key players with the series won, it is expected that they will retain the side which has led them to victories across the opening two matches, with Fareed Ahmed hoping that his two wickets this past Sunday proves enough for him to retain his place after being brought in to the side, replacing Shahidullah.

NETHERLANDS

  • Netherlands are playing only for pride in the third ODI, after a batting collapse that saw them lose eight wickets for only 64 runs led to Pieter Seelaar’s side being bowled out for just 189 chasing 238 for victory in the second match of the series.
  • Brandon Glover did not feature on Sunday and could come back into the Netherlands side for this final match, but ultimately Seelaar must find a formula that sees his middle order able to accrue runs against a strong opposition bowling attack.

THE PREDICTION

Afghanistan haven’t been perfect in this series so far and will still be aiming to improve in this third and final ODI, specifically with the bat, having accrued scores of 222 and 237 respectively so far. However, as you so often see with Afghanistan their brilliant bowling attack makes up for any batting shortcomings and the Netherlands have been unable to deal with the quality on show from the likes of Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman among others. It’s difficult to see that changing in this latest encounter, with the Netherlands batters simply not of a high enough standard to be able to accumulate a match-winning total whether they be setting or chasing a target against such a potent opposition bowling unit. With that in mind, expect Afghanistan to finish this series on a high, recording their third straight win over Netherlands to complete a 3-0 sweep.
