THE LOWDOWN

AUSTRALIA

Coach: Andrew McDonald

Captain: Pat Cummins

  • Australia are starting to show the sort of class demonstrated by their victorious Cricket World Cup winning teams of yesteryears, having now won three in a row and most recently set a record for the highest margin of victory in a Cricket World Cup fixture, beating Netherlands by 309 runs.
  • After accumulating a monster score of 399 runs batting first, the Australians bowled out Netherlands for just 90 an utterly ruthless display and although opener Travis Head is getting closer to a return, it’s hard to see them changing their XI.

NEW ZEALAND

Coach: Gary Stead

Captain: Kane Williamson

  • It’s yet to be seen how New Zealand will respond to defeat at this World Cup but after going down by four wickets to India last time out, ending their 100% record in the group stage, we’re about to find out here in Dharamsala.
  • Tom Latham will deputise again in Kane Williamson’s injury-enforced absence, whilst the form of fast bowlers Trent Boult, Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson is keeping Tim Southee from making his return to the side following an injury of his own.

THE PREDICTION

In a Cricket World Cup, it’s often about when you peak as a team and Australia look to be doing so at just the right time. Their bad start looks a long time ago now and in current form, it’s hard to see who will stop them. New Zealand are perennially underrated when up against one of the ‘big three’ cricketing nations and can match up to Australia if at their best. Since the turn of the millennium though, Australia have beaten New Zealand in five of their six Cricket World Cup clashes and when taking into account recent performances, Australia are the side worth backing to overcome the Black Caps again.

BETTING TIP: AUSTRALIA TO WIN
