THE TEAM NEWS
AUSTRALIA
Coach: Justin Langer
Captain: Aaron Finch
- Despite not playing their best cricket so far, Australia have managed to win four of their five matches in the competition so far and they will be confident of picking up another win here against Bangladesh and edging closer to sealing a top four spot.
- After missing the last two matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, Marcus Stoinis has been training to test his troublesome side strain and the selectors are optimistic that he will be able to return for this match or the next game against England which will mean Mitch Marsh will be released to rejoin the Australia A team.
- Australia have no other injury worries to contend with but assistant coach Brad Haddin has admitted that they have yet to find their best eleven and they will continue to employ a fluid approach to their batting line-up depending on the situation.
BANGLADESH
Coach: Steve Rhodes
Captain: Mashrafe Mortaza
- Bangladesh arguably pulled off the most impressive victory of the tournament so far on Tuesday as they chased down West Indies’ 321/8 with the loss of just three wickets and with 8.3 overs remaining thanks to some stunning batting.
- Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan hit a second successive century to guide the team to victory while Liton Das also impressed with an unbeaten 94 from 69 balls as they now sit on five points from five matches and have an outside chance of challenging for the top four places.
- Skipper Mashrafe Mortaza continues to struggle with his fitness and a hamstring problem forced him from the field in the win over the West Indies but he seems unlikely to want to step out of the side so he may continue to struggle on.
THE PREDICTION
These two teams have played 19 previous completed matches and Bangladesh have only managed to win one of those games having lost the other 18. That does not bode well for them coming into this game but they are in superb form having beaten the West Indies in spectacular fashion on Tuesday. On the other hand, Australia’s performances have been somewhat patchy but Starc and Cummins have been in top form and have been the decisive players for them in winning four of their opening five games. This match could be far closer than many people expect with Bangladesh capable of pushing them all the way, but ultimately one would expect Australia to pick up another win.
