THE TEAM NEWS
FINLAND
- Finland currently top Group A as they secured their second successive shutout victory after they saw off France to claim a 3-0 win in their last encounter and will progress as group winners with a win in this final match of the round robin.
- The Finns have won five of their six matches but top the group by virtue of their loss to the USA coming in overtime with Finland doing a great job to be in this position with one match left.
- Finland’s defence has been superb and the catalyst behind their success having conceded just seven goals but Kaapo Kakko continues to earn plaudits for his displays having scored six goals so far.
GERMANY
- Having started the 2019 IIHF World Championships with four consecutive wins, Germany are now in the midst of a two-match losing streak after they followed up their hammering to Canada with a defeat against the USA.
- With the game tied heading into the third period, the United States scored two goals to condemn the Germans to their second straight loss that saw them drop to fourth in Group A.
- Germany will compete in the quarter-finals but will want to get back to winning ways before their last-eight game and will need to improve in both attack and defence with them currently sitting on a negative goal difference.
THE PREDICTION
Germany head into this game as the only side to qualify for the quarter-finals with a negative goal difference and will face a difficult task of fixing that against a stingy Finland defence that ranks second best in the competition so far. The Finns have played with freedom off the back of being strong at the back and that will be the case again here and for the rest of the tournament with Germany unable to snap their losing streak.
