ENGLAND
- England head into the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup as one of the favourites and under head coach Phil Neville, they will feel they have everything required to have a serious tilt at winning the crown.
- The Lionesses are ranked as the third best side in the world and should have no real trouble progressing from the group but will need to start well against rivals Scotland in their opening game.
- England have plenty of talent across the pitch but none more so than right-back Lucy Bronze who is regarded as one of the best in her position in the world whilst Beth Mead could play an important role further up the pitch.
SCOTLAND
- Scotland could be one of the dark horses of the tournament and whilst they may not have the ability to pose the elite teams problems in the latter stages, they will fancy their chances of getting out of the group at the very least.
- They are a nation on the rise and have now qualified for two consecutive major tournaments as the world’s 20th ranked side continues to develop as a team with plenty of talent amongst their squad.
- Kim Little has had to overcome some horrific luck with injuries but when fit, she is one of the best players in the world and will get the chance to showcase her talent on the biggest stage of all at this World Cup.
THE PREDICTION
England will be hopeful of overcoming bitter rivals Scotland in their opening World Cup match as they look to cement their place as one of the favourites for the tournament. Scotland will have other ideas and can pose England plenty of problems with a potential stalemate on the cards. The Scots have plenty of up-and-coming talent with Erin Cuthbert one of those who will be keen to make her mark after a good year for Chelsea and whilst it won’t come as a surprise if England do win, this could end in a draw if England show some early jitters.
