- Australia are fancied in some quarters to have a real crack at winning the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup as they enter with what many believe is their strongest ever squad.
- The Matildas are currently ranked as the sixth best side in the world and whilst new coach Ante Milicic comes in with a good pedigree, he has only had a handful of matches to prepare his side for this tournament following the sacking of Alen Stajcic in January.
- The Australians have numerous players who stand out and they look capable of playing some good football under numerous systems but nobody shines more than Sam Kerr who could use this tournament as an opportunity to seal a move to one of Europe’s top clubs.

- Le Azzurre are ranked 15th in the world and despite facing some tough competition in Group C, the Italians have the talent to progress but will need to be consistent from the outset and that begins with a tough game against Australia.
- Juventus’ Barbara Bonansea will be key for the Italians’ success with the winger coming into this tournament on the back of a superb domestic season in which she played her part in a Serie A and Coppa Italia double.

Australia will fancy their chances of claiming the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup crown but must start their campaign in the right way as they face what is likely to be a difficult contest against Italy. The Italians are capable of beating the best on their day but Australia can edge this. They have some big talent in their side and will be looking for a good start to stamp their mark on the tournament as they look to navigate their way out of an awkward group.
