THE TEAM NEWS
CAMEROON
- Defending champions Cameroon were originally due to host the tournament, and though they were stripped of the hosting rights due to delays in meeting organising deadlines, they made sure of their spot place due to finishing second in Group B behind Morocco.
- Cameroon’s arrival at the tournament in Egypt at the end of last week was delayed by 24 hours when the squad refused to board their plane in a disagreement over appearance fees bonuses. They did reach an agreement and boarded the plane later a day later than originally planned.
- Clarence Seedorf has been in charge since August 2018 having previously had some underwhelming results in his time as a club manager. Only ten of the players who were in the 2017 AFCON winning squad are present in the squad and they are without injured attacker Vincent Aboubakar whilst defenders Nicholas N'koulou and Joel Matip continue to be absent from the national team through their own choice.
GUINEA-BISSAU
- Guinea-Bissau return to the Africa Cup of Nations finals for the second time in a row having made their debut in 2017 when they finished bottom of a group containing the host nation Gabon
- They earned qualification by winning a favourable qualifying group containing Namibia, Mozambique and Zambia.
- Frédéric Mendy is the top scorer in their squad with four international goals, with three of these coming during the qualification campaign.

THE PREDICTION
2017 Africa Cup of Nations champions Cameroon begin their campaign with a match against Guinea-Bissau who are making only their second appearance at the tournament. Cameroon are a much different side to the one who triumphed two years ago and there are question marks over Seedorf’s ability to lead them to glory. Guinea-Bissau have nothing to lose and can make things tough but they are unlikely to have the firepower to overturn Cameroon. Guinea-Bissau led Cameroon 1-0 two years ago at the Africa Cup of Nations before losing 2-1 and a similar outcome is possible again this time.
