Yuliia Starodubtseva vs Magdalena Frech prediction

Yuliia Starodubtseva won both of her qualifying matches without the drop of a set as she made it through to the main draw in Washington. She did show some form during the clay season, reaching the fourth-round in Madrid and following that up with a third-round appearance at Roland Garros. However, the Ukrainian’s form on hard court has been very disappointing and she is still without a main draw victory on the surface this season.

Magdalena Frech will be her first-round opponent. Frech has also struggled on hard courts this year, ever since reaching round three of the Australian Open in January. Her last outing at Wimbledon was thoroughly disappointing, as she lost 6-3 6-2 to 18-year-old Victoria Mboko in the first-round.

Frech leads the head-to-head 1-0, beating Starodubtseva in the qualifying of the San Diego Open in 2023. Neither player has performed to the best of their undoubted abilities this season, and it may go to a deciding set.
