Venus Williams will feature for the first time since the 2024 Miami Open after being granted a wildcard for this tournament. The seven-time Grand Slam champion is 45-years-old and currently listed as ‘inactive’ on the WTA Tour website. She does not have a ranking but Williams, who turned pro in 1994, insists she is ready for her latest comeback.

She will face Peyton Stearns in the first-round. Stearns struggled during the grass court season and lost in the first-round of Wimbledon. Her best form of the season has occurred on clay, as she reached the round-of-16 in Madrid and followed that up with an impressive semi-final finish at the Italian Open.

Stearns has struggled to produce any kind of consistency on hard courts this year, but Williams is without a win on the WTA Tour since August 2023 and should be no match for the 23-year-old. Stearns will be a heavy favourite to defeat the veteran in straight sets.
