Marwan Rahiki: Will "Freaky" go 2-0 in the UFC as an enormous betting favourite?

Fresh off a banger with Harry Hardwick at the Apex that kept his 100% finish rate intact, Marwan Rahiki (8-0) looks to push his UFC record to 2-0 on a short notice opponent after Jack Jenkins was bounced from the card. The undefeated 23 year old prospect has gone a long way to establishing himself as a bona fide action star in just two fights, producing a spectacular come-from-behind win on the Contender Series before his aforementioned war with Hardwick in his promotional debut. A former kickboxer with superb striking acumen and an iron chin, “Freaky” looks to be a superb addition to the roster already.

Ollie Schmid: Can Schmid defy the odds as a considerable underdog in his debut?

Called in to replace Jack Jenkins at the eleventh hour, Ollie Schmid (4-2) looks to seize his UFC opportunity with both hands come Saturday night. Fighting out of City Kickboxing, Schmid appears to be a slick striker with flashy spins and fight ending power. However, he’s fought pretty dismal levels of competition in his six professional fights to date, getting finished in both losses by regional level talent to boot. Originally slated to fight under the Hex Fight Series banner in May, Schmid won’t be in the worst shape for his UFC debut, but still fights more than a month earlier than he was supposed to enter the cage.

Marwan Rahiki vs Ollie Schmid prediction

Dear God, what a mismatch.

With the greatest of respect, Schmid looks to be a run of the mill regional level talent. He’s best known for scoring a couple of spinning backfist KOs on the regional scene, but he’s also 4-2 against mediocre levels of competition and was KO’d by the first fighter he faced with a winning record. He’s also taking this one on exceedingly short notice, facing an aggressive up and comer with a 100% finish rate.

By contrast, Rahiki is raw and unproven at the highest level, but still looks to be a seriously promising prospect with a few holes in his game; holes that can be ironed out with time and experience. He’s coming off a win over the former Cage Warriors featherweight champion in his last appearance, as opposed to a TKO over the 5-5-3 Jeffrey Mesa.

It’s not entirely out of the realms of possibility that Schmid somehow scores the upset; he’s got KO power, looks to be well conditioned, and has a significant height advantage heading into this one. However, the safer bet by far is that Rahiki remains composed to find a finish. It’s likely to be a war for as long as it lasts, but “Freaky” will have his hand raised when all is said and done.

Prediction: Marwan Rahiki to win by TKO
