Nathaniel Wood: The English fan favorite looks to secure his third successive win
A UFC mainstay for the better part of a decade, Nathaniel Wood (21-6) is likely extremely aggrieved that he's not currently on a six fight win streak since making the move to featherweight. The Englishman's sole defeat since 2020 saw him endure one of the worst displays of MMA cheating in recent memory, as Muhammad Naimov fence-grabbed, groin-shotted, and glove-held his way to the most controversial of victories at UFC 294. Wood remains one of the most consistent fighters the lower weight classes has to offer, with wins over the likes of Charles Jourdain, Andre Fili, and Morgan Charriere.
Jose Miguel Delgado: The American returns following a show-stopping KO victory at UFC 317
Boasting a 100% finish rate in victory, Jose Delgado (10-1) has been perfect in his brief UFC tenure to date. The 27 year old American power puncher earned his shot at the big leagues with an impressive second round KO on the Contender Series over the undefeated Ernie Juarez and he hasn't slowed down since. Delgado has destroyed Connor Matthews and Hyder Amil with back-to-back first round knockouts, taking out both men in a combined total of just 3:24. Delgado's win over Amil was particularly impressive, considering that "The Hurricane" was undefeated heading into their match up.
Nathaniel Wood vs Jose Miguel Delgado prediction
One of the better UFC fighters in recent memory to never break into the rankings, there's an argument to be made that Wood could potentially win this.
The Englishman has always been an extremely technical and well rounded fighter. He throws with excellent technique with decent volume, and even has some solid takedowns in his back pocket. Unfortunately, he doesn't have that much power and he seemingly gets hurt badly on at least one occasion in virtually every fight that he's in.
Wood also seems to be at a perpetual size disadvantage since making the jump to featherweight, something that figures to play a key factor against Delgado. In addition to his murderous knockout power, the menacing Delgado is large for the division, standing 5'11 with a 73' reach. The 27 year old American has brutalized everybody the UFC has put in front of him in short order, and he's hasn't been beating cans either; Hyder Amil was 11-0 before Delgado cleaned his clock with a vicious knee.
If this goes the distance, Wood has the quality in him to earn a decision. Unfortunately, it's unlikely to get that far. Delgado is going to hurt Wood early, and once he has him in trouble, it's hard to see him letting "The Prospect" recover.
Prediction: Jose Delgado to win by first round TKO
