Tristan Schoolkate advanced to the quarter-finals of the Los Cabos Open as he defeated Daniel Altmaier 6-3 6-4. The Australian grabbed the crucial break at the end of both sets to win and wasn’t broken throughout the match, saving six break points in total.
He will face Denis Shapovalov next in the last eight. Shapovalov made a storming start to the event as he thrashed Govind Nanda 6-1 6-2. The Canadian started strongly and did not look back, breaking the Nanda serve on five separate occasions and he’s now into his first quarter-final since making the final in Acapulco all the way back in February.
There are still elements of the Shapovalov game that need to be ironed out, primarily his first serve percentage, but he will be hopeful of a return to form on the hard court after a tricky spell during a chunk of the season.
