THE PREDICTION
World number 56 Yannick Hanfmann grabbed a shock victory over Emil Ruusuvuori, whom had never lost in the first round at the Miami Open, in three sets on Thursday. The 32-year-old has endured a woeful spell on hardcourts since last August but he found the best form of his career on the natural surfaces last summer to suggest he could take some momentum from Miami into the clay swing next month, although this is no certain to defeat to world number 20 Adrian Mannarino.
35-year-old Mannarino reached the round of 16 at the Australian Open with his unique brand of deceptive tennis, upsetting Ben Shelton to prove that power is not everything, but he has struggled to make a significant dent on tour since. The Frenchman won three of his five ATP titles last season with some clutch performances at 250 level, including a straight-sets victory over Hanfmann in the semi-finals of the Mallorca Championships, but this rematch could come a lot closer if Hanfmann maintains his level. Back Mannarino to earn at least a set as the likelier of two capable victors.
