THE PREDICTION
World number 11 Barbora Krejcikova won her first Masters title in Dubai back in February to look a threat here in Cincinnati but she comes in cold in her first match back for over a month since suffering an injury in the second round of Wimbledon. The 27-year-old beat two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka in Melbourne to make the quarter-finals last season but the Belarussian went one better this year, reaching the semi-finals before defeat to eventual runner-up Elena Rybakina. Former world number one Victoria Azarenka pulled out of the second round at the Canada Masters last week after an impressive opener over Magda Linette to throw some doubt over her fitness here. The 34-year-old has struggled to impose herself on tour across the summer but she was champion of the Western & Southern Open as recently as 2020, held in New York that season, and runner-up at the US Open soon after. Azarenka is always a threat in these conditions but if Krejcikova is fit she should be able to edge through. Take Krejcikova to earn at least a set but leave this match out of an accumulator.
