Daniil Medvedev advanced to his fourth final of 2026 after beating compatriot Roman Safiullin at the Hangzhou Open. The former world number one clinched the first set after breaking Safiulln’s serve for the first time in the 12th game. He went an early break down in the second but quickly recovered, winning 7-5 6-4.
He faces Andrey Rublev. The 28-year-old reached the final following a win over Kyrian Jacquet. The first set went all the way to a tiebreak, with Rublev winning seven points in a row to take the lead. Jacquet continued to fade in the second set, with Rublev going on to win 7-6 (0) 6-1 after one hour and 21 minutes. Rublev did not concede a break point across the whole match.
Medvedev dominates the head-to-head, leading 8-2 and 5-1 on outdoor hard court, though this will be their first meeting since November 2023. Rublev will look to be aggressive and dominate, but Medvedev has always performed well in this particular matchup.
