THE PREDICTION

13th seed Veronika Kudermetova brings a poor three-match losing streak into the Qatar Masters, with a straight-sets defeat to Heather Watson in Abu Dhabi this week a considerable shock. The 26-year-old appears to be struggling for confidence on court but when she found some rhythm last season she was a serious threat to the top players on tour, notably stunning Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula en-route to the Tokyo Open title in October as well as reaching back-to-back Masters semi-finals on clay.

Former world number seven Danielle Collins is currently ranked outside the top 70 after a tough few seasons on tour but the American is playing well so far in 2024 despite a 3-4 record. 30-year-old Collins beat the returning Naomi Osaka this week in Abu Dhabi before an impressive performance against Elena Rybakina eventually ended in three sets, in much the same way that she challenged Iga Swiatek at the Australian Open, and if she can maintain that level she should cause the first significant seed to fall in Doha. Back Collins to win outright, despite her 0-2 record so far against Kudermetova.

TIP: DANIELLE COLLINS TO WIN
