THE PREDICTION
37-year-old Vera Zvonareva rolled back the years on Wednesday with a comfortable straight-sets victory over Misaki Doi, her first tour-level victory in singles since beating Alison Riske at the start of the year. The former world number two fares a decent chance at the upset here given her momentum through the qualifiers and the fact that 19th seed Tamara Zidansek has not won a match since the second round of the Australian Open. 24-year-old Zidansek would be an easy pick with more match practice in her legs but she will be desperate to get some more time on court before the clay swing, on which she excels. Zvonareva won their only previous meeting in comfortable straight sets back in 2018 when Zidansek was new on the scene but this is likelier to level things up if Zidansek finds even 80% of her level. In a match that could well see three sets the Slovenian is the best to back to win one of them.
