THE PREDICTION

21-year-old Dominic Stricker gave desperate home fans in Basel something to get behind on Thursday with an excellent three-set upset over second seed Casper Ruud, his second top 10 win of the season. The Swiss rising star stunned Stefanos Tsitsipas in five sets en-route to the round of 16 at the US Open last month to prove himself one to watch next season but he could well fast-track his progress this week if he can utilise every ounce of partisan support. 25-year-old Ugo Humbert should prove his toughest foe of the week so far, though, after the Frenchman beat seventh seed Nicola Jarry in two tiebreaks on Thursday. Humbert can move back up to his career-high ATP world ranking of 25th with one more victory here and that motivation should see him throw everything at this first encounter with Stricker as his resurgence from a woeful 2022 looks almost complete. All four of their combined matches this week have seen at least a tiebreak so take at least one here to avoid a tough call – although adding at least a set for Humbert feels the more sensible way to lean.

BETTING TIP: Over 0.5 tiebreaks.
