THE PREDICTION
This will be a fascinating season for both world number 59 Aslan Karatsev and number 111 Tim van Rijthoven and a first meeting between the two on Wednesday could end up a real thriller. Former world number 14 Karatsev started 2022 off on fire, beating Andy Murray in the final of the Sydney Tennis Classic this time last year to claim his third ATP title, but the Russian tailed off in surprisingly poor fashion after January. In almost complete contrast, 25-year-old Van Rijthoven was a total unknown until last summer’s miraculous run to the ‘s-Hertogenbosch title on his ATP tour debut – beating three current top 10 players to do so in Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz and Felix Auger-Aliassime.
