THE PREDICTION
26-year-old Thanasi Kokkinakis is the defending champion here in Adelaide, his home town, and he played like it on Wednesday with one of the biggest wins of his career over top seed Andrey Rublev in three sets. The Aussie overcame Alexei Popyrin in three on Monday in an encouraging performance but beating Rublev is a considerable upgrade and proof of the extra levels he can find with as partisan a crowd as you can find on tour behind him. World number 28 Miomir Kecmanovic did well to fight that crowd on Wednesday in a comeback victory over Jason Kubler but the Serb will need to be at his very best to beat the city of Adelaide and its favoured son. Kokkinakis beat the likes of John Isner and Marin Cilic here last season and he can be backed, albeit tentatively, to build on his success with an outright win.
