THE PREDICTION

This promises to be an entertaining clash of styles between hard-hitting Thanasi Kokkinakis and Dan Evans’ disruptive flourishes. World number three Kokkinakis leads their head-to-head 2-0 having won both of their previous encounters in straight sets but this first hardcourt meeting since 2015 should be their closest yet, with Evans enjoying some of his best tennis over the past eight or so months and the Aussie struggling for consistency. World number 42 Evans beat Roman Safiullin in straight sets on Monday to snap a three-match losing streak whilst Kokkinakis grabbed an impressive comeback over Jack Draper on Tuesday to spoil the all-Brit fixture. The 27-year-old laboured to victory in the first round of the Australian Open last month before a more competitive four-set exit to Grigor Dimitrov but he has cut a frustrated figure on tour for some time now as he struggles to find the top gears of what has always looked a top 30 game. Given their record, back Kokkinakis to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.

TIP: THANASI KOKKINAKIS TO WIN A SET
