24-year-old Taylor Fritz will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of at least 12th after overcoming a tough Tommy Paul in straight sets on Monday. The American came back into serious form at last season’s delayed Indian Wells and improved steadily to a first Masters title there two weeks ago, beating an injured Rafael Nadal in the final. Fritz reached the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time in January in a five-sets defeat to Stefanos Tsitsipas.
MIOMIR KECMANOVIC
World number 48 Miomir Kecmanovic beat the Miami Open home hopeful Sebastian Korda in two seriously impressive sets on Monday. The 22-year-old is in the form of his young career and finally realising the potential that saw him win a first ATP title at the Kitzbuhel Open back in 2020, where he set a career-high ATP world ranking of 38th. Kecmanovic looks set to smash that career-high over the clay swing on a surface that was previously thought to be his best.
THE PREDICTION
Miomir Kecmanovic’s sudden form this season is an incredible realisation of his potential under new coach David Nalbandian coming good. The 22-year-old has beaten the likes of Marin Cilic, Matteo Berrettini and Felix Auger-Aliassime this month and he came close to ending Taylor Fritz’ dream run at Indian Wells in a tight three-set defeat in the quarter-finals. 11th seed Fritz will be well-backed in this quick rematch but it remains to be seen if he can muster the same intensity that he found in California two weeks ago and Kecmanovic has already put out two Americans against the noise. Take the impressive Serb to win at least a set here and leave the winner up to chance.
