World number 11 Hubert Hurkacz is fast-becoming a the favourite outside racer to qualify for the ATP Finals next month after an impressive run so far in Basel. Back-to-back straight-set wins is so far removed from the endless marathon matches he has spent most of 2023 enduring and he has looked so much freer on court since coming into form en-route to his second Masters title claimed in Shanghai two weeks ago. 27-year-old Tallon Griekspoor will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 22nd after upsetting Alex de Minaur in straight sets on Thursday, improving on a choppy opener over Thiago Seyboth Wild. The Dutchman has enjoyed the best season of his career by some distance in 2023, picking up his first two ATP titles in Pune and ‘s-Hertogenbosch, and a run to the Washington 500 final in August is proof if his ability at this level.
