STEFANOS TSITSIPAS
World number five Stefanos Tsitsipas was up against it for much of an entertaining battle with qualifier J.J. Wolf on Saturday but he ultimately came through strongly in three sets. The 23-year-old was shocked at this stage of Indian Wells by Jenson Brooksby two weeks ago after another tight three-set victory over Jack Sock. Tsitsipas won a first Masters event last season at the Monte-Carlo Open on clay and he reached a first Grand Slam final at Roland-Garros before losing to Novak Djokovic from two sets up.
ALEX DE MINAUR
World number 28 Alex de Minaur beat fellow Aussie Jordan Thompson in straight sets on Saturday. The 23-year-old reached the round of 16 at Indian Wells in similar fashion before losing from a set up to eventual champion Taylor Fritz. De Minaur owns five ATP titles so far after winning last season’s Antalya Open and Eastbourne International.
THE PREDICTION
This could be a thrilling clash between Stefanos Tsitsipas, who is still some way off his best level, and Alex de Minaur but there is fairly damning evidence for the Aussie’s chances at victory. World number five Tsitsipas recently beat De Minaur in straight sets to lead their head-to-head record 7-0 and despite De Minaur’s generally excellent form this season it is hard to see past that. Four of their seven meetings have come since the turn of last year with De Minaur taking just one set and yet Tsitsipas looks fairly vulnerable at present, Backing the Greek to win outright looks a suitable compromise.
