World number 63 Soonwoo Kwon won his first ATP tour title last season at the Astana Open and he started 2022 off in promising form with wins over Lloyd Harris and Holger Rune and some impressive near misses against the likes of Denis Shapovalov whom he lost to in five sets at the Australian Open. The South Korean is a tricky player to knock back when he is in the mood but 20-year-old Brandon Nakashima will be well-supported here as a promising American youngster. The world number 80 reached consecutive finals on North American soil last season when he finished runner-up to Cam Norrie at the Los Cabos Open and John Isner at the Atlanta Open. Backing him to win at least a set here looks a reasonable call with Kwon below par at Indian Wells but the winner of this could come from anywhere.
