World number 32 Sebastian Korda beat Tomas Martin Etcheverry in straight sets on Tuesday to look competitive at the Canada Masters. The 23-year-old started 2023 off in serious form, finishing runner-up to Novak Djokovic at the Adelaide 500 before suffering an injury in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open, but after a choppy summer it remains to be seen if he can rediscover it in time for the hardcourt swing. 27-year-old Aleksandar Vukic has burst into the form of his career over the last few weeks, with a career-best win over world number 15 Borna Coric on Tuesday set to see him break the top 60 on tour for the first time. The Aussie finished runner-up to Taylor Fritz in three tight sets at the Atlanta Open two weeks ago and he should be considered a genuine threat to Korda’s quality, but currently fragile, game.
