THE LOWDOWN

SEBASTIAN BAEZ

21-year-old Sebastian Baez will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of at least 76th after beating Albert Ramos-Vinolas over five gruelling sets on Tuesday. The Argentine came in late to the Next Gen ATP Finals last year with Jenson Brooksby dropping out and he surprised a lot of people by reaching the semi-finals. Baez looks set for a breakthrough year on the ATP tour after a successful season last year on the Challenger circuit on his favoured clay.

STEFANOS TSITSIPAS

World number four Stefanos Tsitsipas looked more assured than we have seen for some time in a straight-sets victory over Mikael Ymer. The 23-year-old had to pull out of the ATP Finals late last season with an elbow injury he had surgery on over the break and a loss to Diego Schwartzman at the ATP Cup two weeks ago looked like this Grand Slam would come too soon for the Greek. However, he is the highest-ranked player in his half of the draw with Novak Djokovic missing and he looks able to make the most of that as he targets a second Grand Slam final.

THE PREDICTION

Argentine youngster Sebastian Baez enjoyed a decent showing on his Grand Slam debut on Tuesday and he will be a new threat to the clay season this year and beyond on performances like that. However, Stefanos Tsitsipas looked fit against Mikael Ymer and a straight sets victory was just what the doctor ordered as he continues to get back up to speed. Take the Greek to come through comfortably enough in straight sets once again.
