World number 78 Sebastian Baez overcame a tough Thiago Monteiro on Friday to reach the semi-finals of the Chile Open. The 21-year-old has impressed this season, with a four-set defeat to Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Australian Open a well-contested battle last month. Baez beat Albert Ramos-Vinolas in five sets in the first round in Melbourne before his defeat to Tsitsipas and that little extra self-belief could be key here against the wily Spaniard. 34-year-old Ramos-Vinolas is yet to drop a set this week and he won the fourth ATP title of his career at the start of this month at the Cordoba Open. That experience and his week so far suggests backing the world number 31 to win at least a set is the reasonable alternative to picking an outright winner here with Baez well capable of pulling the upset again.
